Early Life

Dumisani Chauke was born on September 17, 1986, in Malamulele, Limpopo, a northern province of South Africa. She had always loved sports since her formative years.

At age 10, she was already in team sports like netball, soccer, and basketball. She is the middle child of her parents, with an older sister and a younger sister.

While she attended Magangeni Primary School, Chauke fell in love with sports. Little did she know that her newfound love would affect everything about her life.

Education

Dumisani attended Magangeni Primary School and completed at Flora Park Comprehensive Primary School. She enrolled at Capricorn High School, where she showcased her talent and love for sports.

In 2008, she graduated with a National Diploma in Sport Management from Nelson Mandela University. She did Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management at the Tshwane University of Technology.

Dumisani enrolled for a master’s in Marketing at the Tshwane University of Technology.

Career

Dumisani exhibited her fathomless love for sports while in high school. In 2002, she joined the South African under-16 team and joined the South Africa under-17 team in 2003.

While she was a student at Nelson Mandela University, she played netball. Chauke was also a member of the executive committee and a coach. 

After completing her Postgraduate Diploma at TUT, she played full-time at the Spar Proteas.

In 2014, she tabled her resignation from international netball. After resigning, she was a player-coach at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. Later, Chauke became the head coach of the team.

Later, in 2016, she became the assistant coach for the baby Proteas. Currently, Dumisani Chauke is the SPAR Proteas assistant coach. 

In 2012, she became an elected chairperson Nelson Mandela Bay Basketball Association. She works as a Sports Organizer for netball and basketball at TUT. She launched the Dumisani Chauke Netball Foundation in 2017 to empower young girls through netball and other skills training.

Dumisani Chauke works for Super Sport as a netball analyst. Currently, she is the SPAR Proteas Ladies Netball team assistant coach.

Awards and Recognitions

Dumisani has gained recognition for making South African sports move forward. She is an ambassador of the Nelson Mandela University Sports Department. 

At the 2018 South African Youth Awards hosted by NYDA, Chauke received the presidential award.

Personal Life

On August 20, 2018, Dumisani shared a picture of her engagement ring on Facebook. Although, she did not reveal who her fiancé was. She is a single mother to a 6-year-old boy.

Although the nature of her work is time-consuming, she is good at time management. She makes it look easy to balance work and home. Her siblings are always there to look after her son when she needs to work.

Foundation

Dumisani Chauke registered the “Dumisani Chauke Netball Foundation” on September 15, 2017. The foundation has touched the lives of over 500 girls. 

The primary aim of this foundation is to empower young girls through:

  • netball skills training
  • life skills and two community-based projects
  • pre-loved tekkies
  • sanitary towels
