Kevin Malunga biography

Kevin Malunga (born April 22, 1974) is a prominent educator and government official from Zimbabwe. Although he is a naturalized citizen of South Africa, he has served the country in several capacities.

Malunga has earned his status through hard work, commitment to his roles, and doing his job well. He was the Deputy Public Protector, among other notable positions.

Early Life

Kevin Malunga was born on April 22, 1974, in Bulawayo, the second-largest city in Zimbabwe. His father, Sydney Donald Malunga, was a Zimbabwean nationalist. His mother’s name is Yvonne Maphosa. 

Education

Mr. Malunga studied Law at the University of Swaziland, graduating in 1998. After two years, he received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

In 2002, he completed a master’s program in Law at Georgetown University Law Center. He holds a Doctor of Juridical Science degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Career

In 2001, he started lecturing law courses at the University of Natal. He worked in the academic institution for two years. He was a consultant for Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS from 2002 to 2004.

Malunga started to lecture at the University of Witwatersrand in 2004. He works as the deputy public protector of the Republic of South Africa.

In 2019, he came under fire for his comments about work at the Public Protector’s office. He showed support for the former public protector Madonsela.

Kevin served as Deputy Public Protector from December 2012 and completed serving for seven years. He was the state legal adviser and spokesperson during the Marikana Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

Malunga was a legal advisor coordinating and monitoring policies at the Ministry of Justice. He was also an aide and researcher to the committee on institutional models.

He was a State Law Adviser, Policy Co-ordination and Monitoring at the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development. He was a Trustee of the Legal Education Center at the Black Lawyers Association.

Kelvin was a member of the Ntsebeza Legal Team for reparations against multinational companies in the United States. He was a part-time researcher/consultant to UNAIDS on international and domestic laws affecting HIV vaccine trialists in Ethiopia.

Dr. Blade Nzimande appointed him to the South African Qualifications Authority board. He is a member of the American Society of International Law.

Personal Life

Malunga is an academic, and his passion for knowledge is immeasurably evident in years in the higher institution.

Although he is reportedly married, there is no publication about his wife and family.
