Thabang Moleya (born October 29, 1979) is a South African filmmaker, director, actor, and presenter. He is best known for presenting the kids show K-TV on MNet.

The award-winning director is behind many local television productions in South Africa. He directed Jozi-H, Jacob’s Cross, The Lab, Zone 14, Sokhulu & Partners, and Montana.

Moleya is one of the youngest directors to ever compete in the Africa Film Festival in Milan. He is part of the creative team of the Mzansi Magic hit drama series Gomora.

Early Life

Thabang Kagiso Moleya was born on October 29, 1979, in Tembisa, a large township in Kempton Park, the East Rand. He developed an interest in arts and film from an early age. 

Kagiso is the eldest of three children and entered the film industry at 15. He attended the National School of the Arts and majored in arts.

Career

Moleya became a presenter during his first year in high school after M-Net hired him. He became the presenter on K-TV and fell in with facing and being behind the camera. 

Thabang and his friends started experimenting with facilities after accessing the post-production facilities. Together, the trio began to make short films.

The director is the brain behind several television shows like Jozi-H, Jacob’s Cross, and The Lab, Zone 14. He also directed Sokhulu & Partners, Montana, Remix, and the fifth season of MTV Shuga. 

In 2016, he directed the feature film – Happiness is a Four-letter Word. He is also a prominent actor with many television credits. He played JJ Khumalo in Home Affairs, DJ Mellow in Soul Buddyz, and Thabang in Isibaya.

He was a judge on the SABC3 reality competition series The Final Cut in 2017. He also presented season 13 of the South African Film and Television Awards.

The actor got his big break when he directed his first feature film Happiness Is A Four-Letter Word. He has worked for production companies that made television commercials for top brands like DStv, MTN, KFC, and Debonairs.

Thabang is a co-founder of the production company, Seriti.
