Multiple reports are claiming that South African disc jockey and producer Black Coffee pays his estranged wife Enhle Mbali a child maintenance fee of R50k monthly. The revelation of the sum had some South Africans scratching their heads, with some saying it is too little.

Black Coffee and Enhle Mbali are currently divorced. But before their divorce they used to be pretty close and among South Africa’s favourite couples.

Their split was acrimonious, with Enhle Mbali accusing Black Coffee of assault and also of sleeping with other women, and having a child out when they were legally married. In her divorce battle, she made a couple of requests, including financial support running into the hundreds of thousands.

But from the current revelation of what he pays her as maintenance, it is clear that he has resisted the attempts to make him pay more – something he earlier indicated through his lawyers.

The amount he is said to pay her as maintenance provoked a debate among South Africans, some of whom pointed out that even those who get to work every day don not get to earn that much.

Well, it is up to the estranged couple and their lawyers – you may as well say the legal system in South Africa.
